Stardust Connections

Stars and tree

We are all connected. You may be used to thinking about this spiritually; i.e., we all come from Source or a similar belief.

But science shows us that this connection is not just spiritual. We also have a connection to the physical universe that is beyond time and space. An astronomer named Dr. Michelle Thaller explains this by guiding us through the life-cycle of a star.

Everything that we are made of – all the elements found in our physical space – was first forged in the life and death of a star. As the star burns out, the carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorous, and sulfur that are the building blocks of physical life are formed. As the star dies, the spent physical material comes together in a new way and life as we know it begins.

This is an interesting fact, but how can we use this information? What difference does it make? One difference I find fascinating is how acknowledging the physical nature of our connection can ground the understanding into our daily lives. So that if you are having a difficult interaction with someone, you can acknowledge the connection and begin to focus more on what unites you with the other person than what separates you.

Begin to consider this connection when you meditate. You might say hello to the carbon in your body, for example. Then let the carbon in your body acknowledge the carbon in the other bodies on the planet. If you’re inclined, you might bless this connection and all the carbon-based life forms in our universe. In doing so, you’ll receive a blessing in return!
